Will my kids need baby/child safety seats in Hawaii?2020-11-21T07:58:58+00:00

Hawaii law requires children under the age of four to ride in a child safety seat and children ages of four through seven to ride in a child safety seat or a booster seat when traveling in a motor vehicle. The driver will be held responsible for compliance with the law. Violators of the law are required to attend a 4-hour class and may be assessed a fine.

Can I Go Off Road With my Rental Car?2020-11-21T12:25:46+00:00

None of the major rental car companies allow it. Whether you’ve rented a Jeep, a compact, or a luxury vehicle, you will sign an agreement at the rental counter that voids your contract, and holds you responsible, should you damage your rental car while off-roading. This could be a big “Oopsie”. Fortunately, there aren’t a lot of Hawaiian roads where this is an issue. If you need to get to an area that your rental car company has restricted, we suggest you book with a tour company.

When Will I Need Courtesy Shuttle Service?2023-07-31T04:14:19+00:00

At the larger Hawaiian airport locations, free shuttles or trams take passengers from the inner airport out to each rental car company’s vehicle lot. In Honolulu, for example, shuttles run continuously back and forth. The ride to Alamo and Thrifty lots takes approximately 6 minutes.

Smaller rental car locations have rental cars parked on site and no shuttle service is necessary.

Free shuttle service is not currently provided to and from cruise docks by your rental car company. The port in Hilo is the only location with shuttles operating at this time. We will update you when this service returns.

Do I Need to Purchase Insurance from the Rental Car Company?2020-11-21T07:54:29+00:00

No, not if you carry auto insurance that transfers to a rental car, or rent with a credit card that includes rental car insurance coverage. The key here is to know the information before you leave home. You can research your personal auto insurance policy and/or your credit card company’s rental car insurance coverage to determine that information. Once you know you are covered, you can decline additional rental car company insurance.

If you have insurance questions once you have received your guaranteed reservation from us, you can go to your rental car company’s website and read their insurance requirements and policies.

We do offer low-cost optional insurance for those who have no other options. Just visit www.AlohaInsured.com after you secure a car rental.

What Do I Present at the Rental Counter?2020-11-21T07:53:22+00:00

1. Remember to print and carry your reservation with confirmation number.
2. Have your credit or debit card with you.
3. All drivers must be present and carrying their current driving licenses.
4. When traveling to Hawaii from a foreign country, be prepared to present your round trip airline ticket at the rental counter.

Additional Payment Information: All reservations are guaranteed without making a prepayment. We’ll ask for no personal payment information when you reserve a car through our website. If you have any questions about payment, once you’ve received your reservation, you can find specific information on the website of the major car company you’ll be renting through. You’ll need to present payment information when you’re picking up your car at the rental counter.

All major rental car companies place a hold or security deposit on your card (generally for the rental total and possibly an additional percentage minimum) at pick up time. A credit card with Visa or MasterCard logo is the most popular form of payment, but other cards (including JCB, American Express, and Discover) are happily accepted. A debit card with Visa or MasterCard logo is accepted by most of our rental company partners.

All of our car rental companies accept cash for payment when you return your car and close the rental contract.

Additional Driving License Information: State-issued, current driver’s licenses are recognized for U.S. citizens who drive in Hawaii.
Most foreign country’s driving licenses are recognized in Hawaii. If you hold a driving license that is not printed in English, you should additionally present an International Driver’s Permit with your driving license.
International Driver’s Licenses, alone, are generally recognized for identification purposes only.

Are Your Cars Late Models?2020-11-21T07:52:27+00:00

The major rental car companies we work with rent only current models. The cars are typically replaced each year, generally in the first 2 or 3 months of the present year. Vehicles are no older than 1.5 years. Regardless of where your reservation originates, the car you rent is the same as those rented directly from each rental company.

Do Additional Drivers Pay Additional Fees?2020-11-21T07:51:50+00:00

We are fortunate that we can typically offer free additional drivers.

The automated booking system found here will list which cars come with free additional drivers as you search. With proof of a common address, life partners are considered spouses and drive free.

Are there Any Age Restrictions on Who May Drive Rental Cars?2020-11-21T07:50:45+00:00

Drivers must be at least 20 years old to rent and/or drive a vehicle from any of our major car companies.

Young driver rates apply for all drivers over 20 and under 25 yrs of age with our rental partners.

Our negotiated young driver fee is a discounted fee of $10-12 per day– not the $27 per day fee that is commonly seen on other websites.

None of our car companies have a maximum rental age, nor is there any fee for older drivers.

How Do I Change or Cancel My Reservation?2020-11-21T07:48:03+00:00

As we all know, sometimes plans change. You can easily change or cancel any part, or all, of your reservation on our website at “Change/Cancel“. There’s never a charge to change or cancel with us. While it is not necessary to cancel your no-obligation reservation, other rental customers will appreciate having your rental car freed for their potential use.
